The Endeavor Wind Project

100 MW: 40 Liberty® 2.5 MW Wind Turbines

Currently under construction in Harris and Sibley, Iowa, the Endeavor Wind Project is a 100 megawatt wind energy generation facility in northwestern Iowa. Located 15 miles from the Iowa Great Lakes recreation area, the project has been in development by Clipper Windpower since 2004. In October, 2006, Clipper announced the sale of the project to FPL Energy. Now in the last stages of construction, project completion is expected by late summer 2007.

Leased from 30 local property owners, the project's land area occupies just over seven square miles of gently rolling farmland. The project's turbines, roads and substation, however, only require a small footprint, less than one percent of the project's overall land area, enabling farming and ranching activities to continue in harmony with the wind project.

With towers that reach 262 feet into the air and a blade length of 148 feet, the project's Liberty 2.5 MW machines are the largest capacity wind turbines manufactured in the United States.

Based on the average U.S. energy mix, once completed, the Endeavor Wind Project is expected to supply enough clean, renewable electricity to serve the annual electricity needs of about 33,000 average American homes. If oil were burned to produce the same amount of fuel each year, about 555,000 barrels would be needed. Based on the national average fuel mix, over the course of the project's life, Endeavor is expected to provide the benefit of planting about 73,000 acres of forest and offsetting about 430 million pounds of carbon dioxide, one of the leading pollutants contributing to global climate change.
