Clipper Windpower today announced completion of the commissioning process for eight of its first production 2.5 megawatt (MW) Liberty® wind turbines recently installed at the Steel Winds Project, near Buffalo, New York. Based on performance data to date, the Liberty wind turbines are meeting Clipper's performance expectations.
Clipper's construction activity at the 100 MW (40 wind turbines) Endeavor Project in Iowa is well advanced. The project is fully energized to the grid and substantial balance-of-plant work has been completed. Rotors have been installed on 15 turbines, with 12 turbines now considered to be mechanically complete. Commissioning of the first block of 5 wind turbines has commenced.
A total of 16 Liberty wind turbines were completed in May at Clipper's Cedar Rapids manufacturing and assembly facility. Series production through May totaled 62 model 2.5 MW Liberty wind turbines, including eight produced in 2006.
Firm customer orders currently total 181 turbines for delivery in 2007 (excluding the 8 turbines for Steel Winds) and 311 turbines for delivery in 2008. Clipper expects to exceed the 181 firm order turbine production requirement for 2007, recognizing the key risk to achieving production levels substantially beyond firm orders remains the ability of component suppliers to meet quality standards and required delivery commitments. Future production updates will be provided to the market on a quarterly basis.
